Breckenridge Ski Resort is one of the most popular alpine resorts in the entire United States. Located in the town of Breckenridge, nestled in the heart of Summit County, this ski resort is popular for many reasons, including having the highest chair lift in North America! Peak 6 is the newest addition to the peaks at Breckenridge, and it is a playground for an intermediate to advanced skier. There is a perfect mix of open bowls and cozy glades – and absolutely no shortage of exciting turns!

History of Peak 6

There are five peaks at Breckenridge, and they are the southern peaks of the Tenmile Ridge. Peak 6 opened to the public during the 2013/2014 season and is adjacent to Peak 7. Skiers and snowboarders alike rant and rave about the terrain on Peak 6, as it is versatile and suitable for a variety of skill levels. It was a great addition to the mountain and added 543 ski-able acres to the total terrain.

The majority of that terrain is accessible from the lift, but there is additional hike-to terrain as well. This addition was the largest expansion to any ski resort in North America in over a decade, and it made this world-class resort an even more desirable ski and snowboard destination.

How to Access Peak 6

There are a few ways to access Peak 6, and it all depends on where you start on the mountain. If you are on Peak 7, at the top of Independence SuperChair, you can take the advanced Wanderlust trail straight to the Kensho Superchair, or you can cruise down Monte Cristo, Angel’s Rest or Lincoln Meadows to connect with the Zendo chair. That lift will drop you just above to Kensho lift, which takes you to the top of Peak 6. If you start off on Peak 8, your best bet is to take Columbine to Pioneer, then hop on the Peak 6 Parkway. You can also get to Peak 6 in Breckenridge from the top of Imperial Express SuperChair, or the Horseshoe Bowl T-Bar – this terrain is not for the faint of heart!

The Trails at Peak 6

Skiers of almost all experience levels have something to enjoy at Peak 6. While this peak doesn’t offer any beginner terrain, two of the three bowls are intermediate, while the back bowls are the most difficult trails. The hike-to terrain is all extreme terrain but is sure to offer fresh turns and great views. Outside of the back bowls, Peak 6 is intermediate terrain and ideal for the ones who have a need for speed!

There is an excellent amount of variety on Peak 6. You will find beautiful bowls as well as tight, airy glades. It is perfect if you are with a group of skiers of varying experience levels because there is something for everyone to enjoy. Peak 6 is also the place where the GoPro Big Mountain Challenge takes place. This is a first-class, freestyle skiing event where young athletes can show the world what they got. Even after spending an entire day on Peak 6, you will still find more trails you need to go down.

Dining and Lodging at Peak 6

Breckenridge Peak 6 was designed to make you feel more at one with nature. Everywhere you look, you will find nothing but the pristine beauty of the mountain, so there are no lodging or dining options located on Peak 6. You will only see the Ski Patrol hut and restrooms. The closest restaurants are found on Peak 7 in case you need to grab a bite to eat.
